Support Mastery: The Art of Direction
Moving beyond ult tracking to game-winning leadership
Seminar Session
Today's Scope: The Ladder
Giving Insight: What does a main support actually say to impact the win?
The Framework: Tools you can apply instantly in scrims.
Self-Improvement: How to practice these concepts efficiently.
The Great Misconception
Blind Ult Tracking
Listing percentages does not win fights. Your job is not to be a calculator.
The Goal: Direction
Any action you take should have the intent to win more fights. Teams on the same page win games.
Pre-Fight Direction: The First Step
HOW DO WE WIN?
HOW DO WE LOSE?
Before the fight starts, ask these questions to determine positioning.
Do we want to be FAR (kite/poke) or CLOSE (brawl)?
Fight ON point versus OFF point?
Pre-Fight: Ult Economy
Reading the 'Checkmarks' on the scoreboard
Determine Your Status
Ult Advantage
Ult Disadvantage
Neutral (Execution Heavy)
Scenario A: The Advantage
We have more tools (ults) than the enemy.
Win Condition:
Take straightforward, "Normal" fights.
Minimize risk.
Force Objective Progress. Make them come to you.
Scenario B: The Disadvantage
We used everything. They have ults. A 'Normal' fight means we lose.
Option 1: The 'Crazy' Play
Make it messy. Flank. Hide. Catch them off guard. High risk.
Option 2: The Slow Play (Kite)
Bait out their ults. Give space to save lives. Farm your own ults, then re-engage.
The Advanced Framework
Combining Ult Economy & Map Control (MC)
MC + Ult Advantage
Force Objective. Don't over-ult. Win with minimal resources.
MC + Ult Disadvantage
Look for a miracle play (Slime play) or heavily bait.
No MC + Ult Advantage
Be paranoid. Clear corners. Don't get picked off before the fight.
Mid-Fight Direction
Reading the Future
Remind team of upcoming threats (e.g., 'They have Grav soon!')
Update Win Conditions live (e.g., 'Wait for Suzu/Lamp then commit')
Self-Improvement & Practice
"Knowledge is only useful if you can practice it efficiently."
Don't try to learn everything at once.
Pick ONE concept (e.g., 'Pre-fight Positioning') and focus on it for a whole week of scrims.
