What is a Decimal?

Decimals are a way to write numbers that are not whole. They are parts of a whole, just like fractions! The dot (.) is called the decimal point.

Why Use BOLD Text?

In our homework, BOLD text acts like a spotlight. It tells the reader: <br><br><strong>'Hey! Look at me! I am important!'</strong><br><br>We will use it to highlight the answers in our math problems.

Activity 1: Decimal Scavenger Hunt

Look around your house for items with decimals! Check the pantry or bathroom.

1. Find a bottle or box (e.g., shampoo 12.5 oz).

2. Write down the item name.

3. Write the number in <strong>BOLD</strong> on your paper.

Activity 2: Word Problem Detectives

Your job is to write a short story problem. Include at least two decimal numbers. But here's the twist: You must use the 'B' button (Bold) for every number!

Example: 'Sarah ran <strong>3.5</strong> miles on Monday and <strong>2.1</strong> miles on Tuesday.'

Set a timer for 2 minutes. Convert these fractions to decimals. Don't forget to **bold the answer**!
