TYPE & STRUCTURE OF GOVERNMENT

Verdania is a Federal Constitutional Republic. Citizens elect representatives to a legislative body, and a President serves as the head of state. A Supreme Court upholds constitutional law. Power is divided between the federal government and regional provinces, ensuring no single entity holds absolute authority.

Verdania was founded in 2045 after a corrupt oligarchy collapsed following mass protests. Citizens drafted a new constitution over 18 months, establishing a republic built on transparency, civil rights, and environmental law.

The corrupt oligarchy of the former Verdian States exploited natural resources, silenced the press, and rigged elections for 30 years. A massive climate disaster in 2043 — the Great Flood — destroyed coastal cities, exposing government negligence. Citizens united and demanded a new order.

THE CONSTITUTION OF VERDANIA

PREAMBLE

We, the People of Verdania, in order to build a just and sustainable society, do hereby establish this Constitution as the supreme law of our land. We acknowledge the failures of past governments and commit to transparency, equality, and environmental stewardship. We guarantee the rights and freedoms of every citizen, regardless of origin, belief, or status. We establish a government of separated powers to prevent tyranny and uphold democracy. We dedicate ourselves to peaceful cooperation with other nations and the protection of our natural world. This Constitution is a living document, subject to amendment by the will of the people.

ARTICLE I — GOVERNMENT STRUCTURE

Verdania operates as a Federal Constitutional Republic. Leaders are elected by popular vote every 4 years. Congress holds legislative power (Senate + House). The President holds executive power. The Supreme Court holds judicial power. Citizens participate via elections, referendums, and public forums. Government is funded through progressive income tax, trade tariffs, and carbon taxes.

ARTICLE II — RELIGION & SOCIETY

Verdania is a secular state — no official religion exists. All faiths are welcomed and protected. Citizens freely practice religion in private and public. Religious holidays may be observed but are not mandatory. No law may be based solely on religious doctrine. Religious discrimination is constitutionally prohibited.

OUR CHOICE & STRESS TEST

WHY WE CHOSE THIS STRUCTURE

We chose a Federal Constitutional Republic because it combines democratic participation with institutional checks that prevent any one person or group from seizing total control. After studying how past governments collapsed — through corruption, environmental neglect, and power concentration — we designed Verdania to solve these root problems directly. Our Green Constitution ensures sustainability is non-negotiable. Our Citizen Veto gives power back to ordinary people. Our term limits and transparency laws make corruption structurally difficult. This system balances freedom with responsibility.

⚠️ SCENARIO: A President is discovered accepting corporate bribes in exchange for relaxing environmental laws.

Judicial Branch Responds First

Supreme Court issues an injunction halting the President's executive orders. An independent Special Prosecutor is appointed within 48 hours.

Legislative Branch Acts

Congress votes on impeachment. A 2/3 majority of the House begins impeachment proceedings. Senate holds a full trial.

Citizens Activate Veto

If Congress is slow, citizens collect 15% petition signatures to trigger a national referendum on removal. The President is suspended pending trial.

LIMITS: Military may not intervene in civilian government. Emergency powers do NOT apply in corruption cases.
