Translation

Key Insight

The translator uses escalating verbs: 被打 → 被殴打 → 被杀 — mirroring the original's emotional escalation from beating to killing. A powerful parallel structure preserved in Chinese.

Key Insight

The original uses a fragmented sentence — 'That buzz in the cello' stands alone for dramatic effect. The translator merges it into one flowing sentence using 像 (like), smoothing the abruptness into a natural Chinese simile. This is a classic domestication strategy.

English "broken" is rendered as 有问题 (have a problem) rather than the literal 坏掉了 — a culturally sensitive choice that feels less harsh.

Translation

Key Insight

“Don't need fixing” is translated with scare quotes around “修好” — a deliberate choice to signal the absurdity of the idea. “Be authentic” becomes 做真实的自己 (be your true self), a culturally resonant phrase in Chinese. The triple rhythm of “be kind, be loving, be authentic” is preserved through 去关心…去爱…去做 — a beautiful anaphora in Chinese.
