Overview
Introduction
Today, I will share my preceptorship journey.
Moving to a new country and working in a new healthcare system was challenging.
This journey helped me grow personally and professionally.
London
I was excited to see London because I had only seen it in movies.
On my second day in the UK, I went out to explore the city.
Even though I did not know how to get around, technology made everything easier.
The weather is cold and unpredictable, but it was a new experience for me.
Brentwood
Brentwood was the first place I stayed in the UK.
It was a quiet and comfortable area.
I also remember a very good Thai restaurant there.
Early Experiences
Homerton Hospital
The first time I entered Homerton Hospital, I felt very nervous.
I was unsure of what to expect in a new workplace.
Over time, it became a place where I learned and grew.
Cohort 5
I was part of Cohort 5.
I met colleagues who felt the same mixed emotions as me.
We were all new to the UK and adjusting to a new work environment.
Achievement Unlocked
Review
The review was the most stressful part of my journey.
As an international nurse, this was the final step to becoming registered in the UK.
I was very grateful and thankful to pass this stage.
Healthcare Assistant
Working as an HCA
While waiting for my PIN, I worked as a Healthcare Assistant.
This helped me understand the HCA role better.
It also taught me how important teamwork is on the ward.
New Beginnings
Band 5 Supernumerary Nurse
Even though I have more than ten years of nursing experience,
starting in a new system made me feel like a beginner.
I learned new equipment and new ways of working.
I appreciated the support and patience of my colleagues.
Learning & Growth
My Preceptorship Experience
I worked with many different nurses on the ward.
Each nurse had their own way of managing time and making decisions.
I learned something valuable from each of them.
Attending lectures and mandatory training helped me understand how the NHS works.
Working with students also helped me reflect on my own practice.
Confidence & Belonging
Where I Am Now
I am now confident in my role as a Band 5 nurse.
I can manage my time, make safe decisions, and work independently.
I work well with the multidisciplinary team.
I also support colleagues who are new, just as I was supported before.
I feel that I am truly part of the team and that this is my second home.
Key Takeaways
What I Learned
During my preceptorship, I learned how to adapt to a new healthcare system.
I improved my communication and teamwork skills.
I learned that asking questions and accepting support is important.
Looking Ahead
My Future Plans
My future plan is to continue developing my nursing skills.
I want to grow professionally within the NHS.
I aim to be a safe, supportive, and compassionate nurse.
