The Premise

The story begins when Clay Jensen receives a box of cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker, a classmate who recently took her own life. In these tapes, she details the thirteen reasons—specifically, the thirteen people—who contributed to her decision.

The Role of The Tapes

Zach is a popular jock and a key member of the social elite at Liberty High. Unlike some of his harsher peers ( Bryce or Monty), Zach is often presented as kind-hearted and conflict-avoidant. However, his passivity and fear of losing social status lead him to make cruel choices.
